Students are scattered all over the large room. Some at tables in the middle but most of them are sunk into couches on the sides. Students and staff come to and fro from the coffee shop, releasing the familiar aroma of coffee every time the door is opened. One of the table sitters screams “wonderful!” to his self as he becomes enraged at his computer screen. He then angrily closes the screen and stomps away towing his rollie back pack behind him.
A group of about five girls are sitting near the fire place, all with coffee in hand. A tall, skinny guy comes over to them and yells “soccer party!” revealing the fact that all of the girls are on the soccer team. They seem some what annoyed to see him, but act like they are excited.
The girl next to me who has been doing homework is now on her phone to who sounds like a parent. Another girl sits down across from me. She has a very interesting black and white jacket and has a Dell computer underneath her arm. Soon after this, her friend sits down to help her with computer stuff. It seems like more flirting and less computer help, mostly on her part. She shows him her most recent anime drawings. I can’t tell if he is into it or if he is just weirded out. Right behind me, an old man paces back and forth on his cell phone. “How are you?” he asks with a concerned tone in his voice.

I like that you caught the rollie backpack guy screaming sarcastically at his computer. Shows how funny some people are when they think no one's watching.
ReplyDeleteI like this piece because it shows how everyone is in their own little world, flirting, chatting on the phone, completely oblivious to your watching them.
I like your the way you show variety in the characters that surrounded you in the union. It shows how the union is a diverse place, but also a fun interesting place. And I agree with the above comment that people are just in their little bubbles and never notice. It makes you think 'what do I do when I don't think anyone is looking.'
ReplyDeleteI like the point of view you impose into the story. It's like you're a fly on the wall in a place that always has a diverse group of people. You do a good job showing imagery about the anime people and the guy with the rollie backpack. It reminds me of what I see every time I go to the Union, no matter what time of day it is. I can relate to your point of view and way of thinking in the story.
